Robin Energie’s customers will continue to receive electricity and gas after bankruptcy
The court has declared energy supplier Robin Energie bankrupt. The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) has therefore revoked Robin Energie’s energy license. At the same time, ACM activated an emergency procedure, which ensures that customers of Robin Energie will continue to receive electricity and natural gas.
This emergency procedure ensures that, in all situations, the supply of electricity and gas will be continued. Robin Energie’s customers will automatically be assigned a new energy supplier. The transmission system operators (TSOs) will guarantee the supply of energy during this period. Over the next few days, Robin Energie’s bankruptcy trustee will assess whether another energy supplier is able to take over its customers. If the bankruptcy trustee is unable to find another supplier for the customers of Robin Energie, they will be distributed among all other energy suppliers.
Cateautje Hijmans van den Bergh, Member of the Board of ACM, comments: "Consumers will not be left without electricity or gas. However, when an energy supplier goes bankrupt, consumers may be affected financially. ACM would therefore welcome any plans that the sector puts forward that would prevent such consequences in the future as much as possible.”
For the time being, do not switch suppliers
During the transition period, during which a new energy supplier needs to be found for customers, Robin Energie’s customers are temporarily unable to switch suppliers or to cancel their contracts. This transition period will end on March 13, 2019. As soon as customers have been transferred to another supplier, they will be notified of the transfer by their new supplier. They can then decide whether to stay with their new supplier or to switch to another supplier.
