NMa sets the 2008 tariffs for twelve regional network managers
The Netherlands Competition Authority (NMa) has set the maximum tariffs for twelve regional network managers may charge from 1 July 2008. The tariffs are based on the regulation decisions that the NMa adopted earlier this year. Pursuant to the Gas Act the NMa regulates the tariffs charged by managers of regional gas transmission networks.
Each year the network managers submit a proposal for the maximum tariffs. In doing so they must take into account the efficiency discount that the NMa imposes each year. The NMa then fixes the tariffs for the network managers for that year on the basis of the tariff proposal.
Normally the NMa fixes the tariffs as of 1 January of each year. For 2008 however the NMa has set the tariffs as of 1 July. The reason for this is that the preparatory decisions were not adopted until April of this year, since extra investigation was needed for these decisions. In setting the tariffs the NMa does take into account that the network managers were able to charge higher tariffs in the first half of 2008. The NMa makes a correction for this in the tariffs for the second half of 2008.
