Cartels face greater chance of getting caught

In 2007, the NMa imposed a total of almost EUR 10 million in fines. The NMa received 108 reports of mergers and acquisitions in 2007 and investigated a large number of mergers in the healthcare sector. Among the most important results of the sector-specific regulation in 2007 was the NMa's first decision on the basis of the new Dutch Aviation Act. The NMa determined that Schiphol should be charging airlines EUR 36.8 million less. In addition, the NMa was granted new powers. The NMa can now also fine individuals involved in cartels, and enter private homes. The leniency scheme has also been expanded.
