Henk Don to be Chairman of IRG-Rail in 2015

On behalf of the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM), Henk Don has been elected Chairman of the Independent Regulators Group - Rail (IRG-Rail) from January 1, 2015, for a period of one year. He succeeds Jacques Prost (Luxembourg), who served as Chairman in 2014. As Member of the Board of ACM, Mr. Don is responsible for the transport, energy, postal services and telecommunications portfolios.

Mr. Don adds: “Within the IRG-Rail network, ACM, as rail regulator, is able to sit down with its European counterparts and discuss the implementation and impact of new legislation. Together we are able to provide our expertise as input in European legislative procedures. Furthermore, through the IRG-Rail platform, we are able to understand the European rail market better. For a small country such as the Netherlands, that is crucial, particularly with regard to international rail passenger transport and international rail freight transport.’

The objective of IRG-Rail is to promote a consistent application of the European regulatory framework and to exchange best practices. IRG-Rail is important to ACM because the network acts as a point of contact for policymakers and lawmakers in Europe.
