Henk Don elected to the board of IRG Rail
From January 1, 2014, Henk Don, Member of the Board of the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM), will serve as Vice Chairman of the Board of the Independent Regulators Group – Rail (IRG Rail). And from January 1, 2015, Mr. Don will be the Chairman thereof. This is the result of a unanimous vote held among members of IRG-Rail on October 14. IRG-Rail is the network of independent rail regulators in Europe. IRG-Rail aims at harmonizing rail regulation in Europe further, and at exchanging best practices.
IRG Rail currently has 22 members. The network is important to ACM because it serves as a key point of contact for lawmakers and policymakers across Europe. Mr. Don comments: ‘Within this network, ACM, as rail regulator, is able to sit down with its European counterparts and discuss the implementation and impact of new legislation. Together we are able to provide our expertise as input in European legislative processes. Furthermore, through IRG Rail, we are better able to understand the EU rail market. For a small country such as the Netherlands, that is crucial, particularly with regard to international rail passenger transport and international rail freight transport.’
