Dutch energy supplier ANWB Energie has largely solved its problems with sending the annual and final bills. An ANWB report shows that approximately 700 customers are still waiting more than six weeks for their annual and final bills. ANWB has made a commitment to the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) that it will pay all of these customers a compensation of 150 euros, and that it will personally contact them within three weeks to solve the problems. ACM sees to it that ANWB complies with this commitment, and that it solves the problems for this last group of customers as well.
ACM tightened its oversight over ANWB Energie in April 2026, because the company had a significant backlog in sending annual and final bills. At the time, ANWB committed to ACM that it would have solved the problems by June 12, 2026. ANWB Energie has kept ACM well informed over the past few weeks about solving its administrative problems and clearing the backlogs of the annual and final bills.
ANWB Energie offers dynamic energy contracts. Dynamic energy contracts require you to have a smart meter that sends meter readings automatically to the system operator. Some households still have an old-fashioned meter with dials. These households will receive a letter from their system operators this year about replacing their meters free of charge. They can opt for smart meters or for digital meters that do not send meter readings to the system operator.
The vast majority of the customers that have not yet received bills from ANWB Energie have old-fashioned meters with dials or digital meters that do not send meter reading to the system operator. There is also a small group of customers that experience other technical or administrative problems as a result of which the annual and final bills cannot be drawn up. Customers that do not have smart meters will be offered a model contract by ANWB Energie. In addition, ANWB Energie points out to these customers that they might be better off with another energy supplier.
Compensations
Customers that currently have not yet received their annual and final bills and that have been waiting for them for more than six weeks will be contacted within three weeks by an ANWB representative to personally resolve the problems. ANWB Energie has also made a commitment to ACM that it will pay these customers a compensation of 150 euros. ANWB Energie will automatically pay these compensations to the customers that are entitled to them. Customers do not need to contact ANWB Energie about this.
