Special edition: Assessing the impact of competition and regulatory policies
Dutch journal De Economist has published a special edition about the impact of antitrust enforcement and sector-specific regulation.
Impact assessment helps justify the actions taken by regulators, and it helps regulators learn from its actions. This special edition of De Economist features examples of impact assessments such as the mergers of telecom providers, and the demonopolization process of a national waste-processing company. Other articles are about the impact of competition and regulatory policies on welfare. The general conclusion from all of these studies is that fair competition is critical for consumer welfare and economic development.
