Intra-day trading with Norway to commence on March 14
The Netherlands Competition Authority (NMa) has decided that the Grid Code amendments that will facilitate intra-day trade with Norway will take effect on March 14, 2012. The amendment proposal put forward by the grid operators had already been approved about six months ago. At the time, however, Dutch transmission system operator TenneT had not implemented the necessary systems yet. TenneT”s activities were closely monitored by the NMa to ensure a fast implementation thereof.
With the launch of intra-day trading with Norway, integration of intra-day markets in Northwestern Europe has come a step closer. Important subsequent steps are improving intra-day capacity allocation on the German border, as well as introducing intra-day auctions on the BritNed cable. In the long run, the European target model for intra-day trading must be introduced on all cross-border connections, as is already the case now on the Belgian border and on NorNed.
