DTe: Electricity Price for Small Consumers Not Increased

The Office for Energy Regulation (DTe) has decided that the price of electricity for small users (mainly consumers) will not be increased in the second quarter of 2003. Four times a year, DTe assesses whether electricity prices for small consumers should be adjusted. Adjustment occurs if developments, which affect the price level for the procurement of electricity, such as an increase in fuel costs, give cause for this.

Despite the sharp rise in the oil price, the electricity price for the second quarter of 2003 has not increased. Price fluctuations which remain within a certain bandwidth do not require adjustments to be made. In addition, the oil price is only one of the two factors that determine whether the electricity price has to be adjusted. The other factor is determined by the indexed annual average APX price (the price of freely traded electricity on the Amsterdam Power Exchange) which has increased significantly less than the oil price.

This is the second time that DTe has determined the electricity price for small consumers on the basis of the method approved at the end of 2002. For the second time, the result has been that tariffs have remained constant.

Information on the approved tariffs and the methods used can be obtained from DTe's website.
