NMA approves acquisition of textbook division of Dutch bookstore chain BGN/Selexyz
The Netherlands Competition Authority (NMa) has approved the acquisition of the textbook division of Dutch bookstore chain BGN Holding by Dutch textbook supplier Van Dijk. The NMa believes that this acquisition will not significantly impede competition.
Van Dijk is currently predominantly active as textbook supplier on the secondary-education and vocational-education markets. After the acquisition of BGN, Van Dijk will also supply significant numbers of textbooks on the higher professional education and university-education markets.
The NMa believes that this acquisition will not affect the strong position Van Dijk is already enjoying on the secondary-education textbook market. This is mainly because BGN primarily distributes textbooks on the higher professional education and university education markets, and is currently not active on the secondary-education textbook market.
