NMa will continue to monitor the Dutch shrimp-fishing industry
The Netherlands Competition Authority (NMa) has found no evidence of involvement of producer organizations in violations of the prohibition of cartels. After hearing about reports in the media on blockades being put up at several shrimp wholesalers and on a shrimp truck getting cornered, the NMa wanted to know what was going on.
Having been contacted by the NMa, Dutch producer organizations Garnaal and Dutch Fishing Association distanced themselves from these incidents. In an open letter that was published in a trade journal, they called on shrimp fishers to comply with the Dutch Competition Act.
These recent events, as well as the violations of the prohibition of cartels that were established in the past, compel the NMa to monitor this industry on a permanent basis.
