NMa: No Investigation of Land Prices in Twente
Following a preliminary investigation, the Netherlands Competition Authority (NMa) has decided not to initiate an investigation under competition law into the joint land policy of the cities of Enschede, Hengelo, Almelo and Borne, united in 'Netwerkstad Twente' (Network City Twente). NMa requested clarification from the municipalities at the end of last year following various newspaper reports that land prices were set jointly. Even public authorities, if they are involved in economic activities, fall within the scope of the Competition Act. This is not the case when they carry out typically public duties.
