NMa Approves Takeover of TZH by TenneT

The Netherlands Competition Authority (NMa) has approved the takeover of B.V. Transportnet Zuid-Holland (TZH) by TenneT. The shares in TZH, currently held by the municipalities of Delft, The Hague, Dordrecht, Leiden, Rotterdam and the Province of Zuid-Holland, will be transferred in their entirety to TenneT.

NMa is of the opinion that at present electricity transmission on the national high-voltage grid and electricity transmission on the regional transmission grids only compete with each other to a limited extent. In addition, the provision of electricity transmission services is highly regulated. For these reasons, NMa does not expect the dominant positions of TenneT and TZH on the market for the transmission of electricity to be strengthened as a result of this acquisition.

TenneT is the manager of the national high-voltage grid. TZH manages the 150 kV regional transmission grid in the province of Zuid-Holland. In addition, TenneT and TZH are active on a small scale in leasing room on electricity pylons and buildings for the placement of telecommunications equipment. TZH also carries out maintenance work on electricity grids for third parties on a small scale.
