ACM announces the appointment of Michiel Denkers as director of the Competition Department

The Board of the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) is pleased to announce the appointment of Michiel Denkers as director of the Competition Department. Chris Fonteijn, Chairman of the Board of ACM, adds: “I’m very happy that Michiel will join ACM, since he has a tremendous amount of knowledge of and experience in financial oversight. Regulators can learn a lot from each other.” The position of Director of Competition had been open since Gerard Bakker left ACM in late-2014. Since then, Johan Keetelaar, Director of the Telecommunications, Transport and Postal Services Department (TVP), had temporarily led the department. Mr. Denkers is currently Head of Supervision and Risk Analysis at the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM). He will start his new position on July 15.

Since 2002, Michiel Denkers (1971) has held several positions at AFM. Prior to his employment with AFM, Mr. Denkers worked in the private sector for several years. He studied financial economics in England, and graduated with a master’s degree in business administration from Erasmus University Rotterdam. The Competition Department assesses mergers and acquisitions, and tracks down violations of the Dutch Competition Act. Approximately 130 employees work in ACM’s Competition Department.
