Energy Department Director Remko Bos to be CEER Vice President

From May 2015, Director of ACM’s Energy Department, Remko Bos will also fulfil the position of Vice President of the Council of European Energy Regulators (CEER). In CEER, all European national energy regulators cooperate on a voluntary basis. The aim of CEER is to contribute to the realization of a European internal market for electricity and gas. To this end, regulators share knowledge and expertise on mutual challenges. Remko Bos: “The European market and the recently announced Energy Union have an increasing impact on the Dutch energy sector and consumers. Within CEER, I want to share our knowledge and let Europe profit from those issues in which the Netherlands is a forerunner, or in which we have acquired a considerable amount of knowledge. At the same time, we can learn a lot from fellow regulators, for example with regard to smart grids, and regulation of insider trading and market manipulation (REMIT).”

Remko Bos has been appointed for a period of two and a half years. In this period, he will focus on a number of priorities. Remko Bos explains: “As in the Netherlands, consumer interests and market-based solutions play a large role in the development of the European energy market. The experience and knowledge from ACM will be put to use in our European discussions about new rules. For example, we are forerunners with regards to: switching energy suppliers, market-based balancing and well-functioning gas markets. In addition, I look forward to discussions on subjects such as cyber security and the future role of grid operators in the transition towards more sustainability. Finally, I hope to be able to align all members so that CEER can speak with one powerful voice.”

Lord Mogg from the United Kingdom has been re-elected as President of CEER.
