Stamp rate increase to 64 cents falls within statutory boundaries

Dutch postal company PostNL will be changing its rates on January 1, 2014. Among other changes, it will increase the rates of stamps (with the number ‘1’ on them) from 60 to 64 cents.

The Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs sets the statutory boundaries within which PostNL is allowed to increase its rates. The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets assesses whether such rate changes fall within those boundaries. With regard to the changes effective January 1, 2014, that is the case.

If you currently have stamps with the number ‘1’ on them, these will continue to be valid after January 1, 2014. Such stamps do not have a fixed value written on them, so they will not lose their validity after a rate change. All stamps with the number ‘1’ on them (regardless when you bought them) can be used for letters weighing 20 grams or less.
