NextEnergy takes over customers from All in Power

On 9 October 2024, the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) announced that it would revoke the electricity-supply license of energy supplier All in Power. All in Power’s customers (households and other small-scale users) will be taken over by NextEnergy. These customers will continue to receive electricity, and will automatically be informed by NextEnergy about their new contracts with dynamic rates.

Customers can decide for themselves whether they wish to stay with NextEnergy or if, after the statutory notice period of 30 days, they wish to switch to another supplier of their choice anyway.

All in Power notified ACM of its intention to file for bankruptcy. This means that customers that are still owed money from All in Power may not get that money back (or not in full). All customers will still receive a final bill. Customers that still need to pay for electricity that has been supplied will thus still need to do so. If bankruptcy is declared, a receiver will further handle this.

Special procedure when licenses are revoked

If ACM revokes an energy supplier’s license, ACM initiates a special procedure. Under this procedure, customers will continue to receive energy. In order to prevent that someone slips through the cracks, the customer database will be temporarily locked. The energy supplier then has the opportunity to find another supplier that is willing to take over its customer database. If that fails, customers will be distributed over all other energy suppliers. After customers have received new contracts from their new energy supplier, they can decide whether they wish to stay with their new supplier or switch to a supplier of their choice. The Dutch legislature laid down this procedure into law in order to ensure that households and other small-scale users always have a supplier, so that they will never be left in the dark and the cold.
