Moratorium granted to EnergieFlex, customers to continue receiving electricity and gas

The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) has revoked the license of Dutch energy supplier EnergieFlex. The court has granted EnergieFlex a moratorium, and ACM has established that the supplier is no longer able to comply with the requirements of its energy license. For the customers of EnergieFlex, an emergency procedure is activated, which ensures that they will continue to receive electricity and natural gas.

Cateautje Hijmans van den Bergh, Member of the Board of ACM, explains: "Customers of EnergieFlex do not need to worry. Even though their energy supplier has been granted a moratorium, the security of supply of electricity and natural gas is guaranteed for these customers. At this point, they do not need to do anything themselves."

Finding a new energy supplier

Over the next few days, EnergieFlex’s receiver will assess whether another energy supplier is able to take over its customers. The transmission system operators (TSOs) will guarantee the supply of energy during this period. If EnergieFlex is unable to find another supplier for its customers, they will be distributed among all other energy suppliers. Therefore, the supply of energy will continue no matter what.

For the time being, do not switch suppliers

During this transition period, which will last through October 31, EnergieFlex’s customers are temporarily unable to switch suppliers themselves. As soon as customers have been transferred to another supplier, they will be notified of such transfer. They can then decide whether to stay with their new supplier or to switch to another supplier.

Information for consumers

On ACM's consumer information portal www.consuwijzer.nl  (in Dutch), consumers can find information about what to expect now that the emergency procedure has been activated.
