Mickie Schoch appointed as Director of ACM’s Telecommunications, Transport and Postal Services Department

On 1 December 2025, Mickie Schoch will start her new role as Director of the Telecommunications, Transport and Postal Services Department at the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM).

Manon Leijten, Member of the Board of ACM, comments: “I’m excited to see Mickie join ACM with her broad national and international experience as director. With her economic expertise as well as her enthusiasm for working together towards well-functioning markets for people and businesses, she will, I expect, contribute tremendously towards realizing our mission. I look forward to our collaboration.”

Ms. Schoch adds: “I’m really looking forward to starting at ACM. ACM’s work affects every Dutch citizen, and its relevance to society is considerable. That really speaks to me. Almost everyone sometimes gets on a train or a bus, receives a letter or a package, or uses their cell phone. We all spend part of our time online, take out services online, or offer services online ourselves. I’m looking forward to putting ACM’s mission and duties into practice together with other ACM colleagues, and, more specifically, to further shaping its oversight over the digital economy as well as to creating a safe and trustworthy online environment for everyone.”

The Telecommunications, Transport and Postal Services Department (TVP) is responsible for general oversight and sector-specific regulation in markets for, for example, digital platforms, fixed and mobile telephony, broadband, public transport, aviation, as well as mail and parcels. In addition to more traditional regulatory challenges, the importance of oversight over the digital economy is increasing tremendously. ACM has a broad set of new duties as a result of new European legislation, for example, the Digital Services Act (DSA) and the Platform-to-Business regulation (P2B). ACM has been charged with enforcement of these rules in these new regulatory domains. That poses a daunting challenge for Ms. Schoch. In addition, as one of ACM’s directors, Ms. Schoch will also help further professionalize the organization as a whole. In that process, ACM’s continued evolution into a mission-driven, authoritative, and agile regulator is central.

At the moment, Ms. Schoch is Director of Tax Policy at the Dutch Ministry of Finance. Prior to that, she held various positions (including management positions) at the same ministry, including Deputy Director of International Affairs and Head of International Economics and Financial Institutions. Before working at the Dutch Ministry of Finance in 2009, she gained international experience at the United Nations in New York, among other organizations. Ms. Schoch studied Economics at Erasmus University Rotterdam, and Economics for Development at Oxford University.

The appointment to this position was made through the general procedure for positions offered by the Dutch Senior Civil Service (ABD). ABD carried out the recruitment for this appointment, and it assisted ACM in the selection process. As is standard for these positions, the job posting was widely published, thereby allowing everyone to apply.
