Dutch energy company must get its administrative system in order
The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) has instructed Dutch energy company EnergieFlex to get its administrative system and internal controls in order. For example, EnergieFlex should eliminate its invoicing backlogs, and make sure that no new backlogs build up. That is why ACM has included obligations to EnergieFlex’s supply license. EnergieFlex must comply with these obligations in order to prevent ACM from revoking EnergieFlex’s license.
With these obligations, ACM intensifies its regulation of EnergieFlex. Since December 2016, ACM has been carrying out an extensive investigation into the administrative system of EnergieFlex. It was revealed that EnergieFlex did not have its processes in order, and that it often sent bills too late.
Cateautje Hijmans van den Bergh, Member of the Board of ACM, explains: “Consumers must be able to rely on the idea that their energy supplier has its administrative system in order. This was not the case with EnergieFlex. It has now received one last chance to get things in order.”
