NMa conditionally approves acquisition of Lloyds pharmacies by Brocacef

The Netherlands Competition Authority (NMa) conditionally approves the acquisition of Lloyds pharmacies by rival Brocacef. The company has adjusted its original acquisition plans, which means that Brocacef will sell its Escura pharmacies in the Dutch cities of Roermond and Breda. This way, consumers will have plenty of choices left even after the acquisition.

The NMa did raise some antitrust concerns over Brocacef's original acquisition plans. In response to these concerns, Brocacef offered to sell pharmacies in Roermond and Breda. The NMa still needs to approve the future buyers of these pharmacies.

Brocacef is a wholly owned subsidiary of Phoenix Pharmahandel GmbH & Co KG. Next to its pharmacy business, Brocacef is also active as wholesaler in drugs, medical aids, and related services. Lloyds Nederland BV is part of Celesio AG and operates the pharmacy chain Lloyds.
