Users will pay EUR 207 million less on gas transmission in 2017
In 2017, consumers and businesses will pay over EUR 207 million less on natural-gas transmission costs. That has been determined by the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM). From July 1, 2017, Dutch transmission system operator for natural gas Gasunie Transport Services (GTS) will have to charge lower tariffs for the transmission of natural gas. The mandatory reduction for the first half of 2017 has already been incorporated into those tariffs.
Earlier this year, ACM set the rules that it will use to determine what the annual revenues of GTS are for the next few years (2017-2021). For each year, ACM will set the tariffs, in accordance with these rules, that GTS is allowed to charge its buyers. This has now been done for 2017. The transmission tariff for natural gas in 2017 will decrease by more than 11 percent compared with 2016, which means a total reduction of over EUR 207 million.
An affordable and secure supply of energy
ACM supports the objective of realizing an affordable, secure, and sustainable supply of energy. It regulates system operators, which enjoy a monopoly on the transmission and distribution of electricity and natural gas. ACM’s regulation ensures that tariffs are not higher than necessary, and it offers system operators a reasonable return on their investments.
