The Netherlands Consumer Authority issues warning about sales technique of Remonyl weight-loss products

The Netherlands Consumer Authority (CA) is warning consumers about the sales techniques of weight-loss products manufacturer Remonyl. Through consumer information portal ConsuWijzer, it has received reports from consumers who had ordered free sample packs of Remonyl products but who then got stuck with paid follow-up shipments that they were practically unable to cancel. The company behind these products is very hard to reach. In order to prevent further harm to consumers, the CA is warning consumers about this sales technique.

Remonyl weight-loss products are offered on www.remonyl.nl, but also through the use of banners on social-network sites, such as Facebook, and other channels. Consumers are invited to order a supposedly 'free' sample pack, even though they have to pay shipping costs (EUR 3.50). It then turns out they are actually stuck with paid follow-up shipments: every month, these consumers received a pack of weight-loss products at a price of EUR 35. Cancellation proves to be almost impossible, since the company is very hard to reach. Furthermore, several consumers have reported that Remonyl hired a collection agency for collecting these fees.

In order to prevent further harm to consumers, the CA is warning consumers about this sales technique. Consumers can file their complaints with ConsuWijzer.
