Individual-building and district heating to cost EUR 24 more in 2017

In 2017, consumers and businesses that get their heat from individual-building heating or district heating will pay on average EUR 24 more than in 2016. Approximately half a million consumers and a share of the small and medium-sized businesses are affected. Households consume on average 35 GJ per year. This will on average cost them EUR 1,093 in 2017. This is the result of the maximum tariffs for heat that the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) has set based on the Dutch Heat Act.

Heat tariffs linked to natural-gas price

The tariffs for individual-building heating and district heating are linked to the tariffs for gas heating in accordance with the ‘No More Than Otherwise’ principle (in Dutch: Niet Meer Dan Anders). This means that, if the costs for gas heating increase or decrease, so will the tariffs for individual-building heating and district heating. The increase of gas-heating costs in 2017 is primarily caused by higher transmission tariffs.
